Why I Created The Private Staff Life

Working in private households can be incredibly rewarding. It can also be complex and, at times, isolating.

Throughout my career, I’ve experienced being contacted with messages outside of working hours, including evenings and weekends. Often, these messages didn’t require an immediate response and could have waited until the next working day. What made it difficult wasn’t the communication itself, but the lack of clarity around expectations and availability.

Over time, I learned how important it is to address this professionally. By having clear conversations around availability — for example, responding during working hours, in genuine emergencies, or the morning before I was due at work — it became possible to set boundaries without damaging trust or the working relationship.

Those experiences highlighted a wider issue within private households. Many private staff care deeply about their roles and want to be supportive, but without clear guidance or support, boundaries can easily blur.

I created The Private Staff Life to offer private staff a confidential, non-judgemental space to talk things through, gain clarity, and prepare for professional conversations before situations become overwhelming.

Whether it’s navigating boundaries, reviewing a contract, planning a role change, or simply having someone neutral to listen, The Private Staff Life exists to support those working behind the scenes in private homes.

Private staff work with discretion, responsibility, and commitment. They deserve clarity, respect, and support in return.
